Reading from the other night

These are the cards that came up in my reading the other night.  I'm excited about the coming year!

Reading for Jake:
Prevailing - You as you are and what’s surrounding you:
Fall, Card #10
The Changeling
An ancient, wizened faerie.
Thoughts opposed to financial or career interest that may be wrong for you will manifest.  A relationship may reach a crescendo because you will possess the confidence to test both yourself and it.  Your trust will be rewarded by weaving a magical change into your life.  An act of generosity brings rewards that are surprising.  Fate is well disposed to you, bringing the response and the transformation that you have desired and deserved for many months.

Autumn – The next season:
The 100-Year-Sleep-Faerie
Winter, Card #9
A mature, powerful winged faerie who bestows youthfulness.  She brings premonitory dreams.
A strange coincidence embellishes the realization that something is happening that you inescapably have to deal with.  When a situation reaches the point of no return, an invisible sense of what is right and what is wrong will motivate you to move forward.  Doubts will disappear.  Rest is vital for your recuperation.  It is in your sleep – provided you devoted the midnight hours to sleep – That the answers to your problems will naturally unfold.  Stop worrying; all setbacks are minor and all will be well soon.

Early Winter – The first snow fall:
Summer, Card #7
The Good Lady Faerie
A gracious winged faerie.
Noble good lies at the heart of destiny.
You are about to be welcomed into new social circles that will open your eyes to fresh experiences.  Difficult people can easily be handled by good manners and reserve, and many new acquaintances fall under your spell.  Curiously and unexpectedly, someone you meet could play an important part in your life, and the attraction will be instant.  From then on, you may change each other’s lives for the better and know each other for many years to come.  This may be the friendship for which you have yearned.

Midwinter – The longest night:
Spring, Card #3
The Sprite
A translucent-winged water faerie caring for pond-life.
All your emotions rise to the surface to be reflected and pondered upon.
The ebb and flow of the tides will lead you on to richer waters, perhaps overseas.  An extraordinary situation is arising, bringing crystal-clear streams of happiness.  Hindrances evaporate.  Your thoughtful attitude to others creates a profound impression on a new acquaintance, inspiring them to make some of your dearest dreams come true.  Valued feelings are reciprocated, allowing time for reflection.  All the signs are good.  You have nothing to fear, but much to which you can look forward.

Winter’s End – The cold night’s end:
Spring, Card #13
The Giant
A wood and forest dweller who often disguises himself or herself as a tree.
Great strides are taken; gigantic shadows fade.
Better days are coming your way.  You can look forward to surprise invitations arriving.  A huge change of good fortune is about to bring you wish fulfillment and peace of mind.  You may be embarking on a long or short journey of great significance, where your hopes will come true.  Time may be spent planning.   An offer that you are about to receive may evolve to be much greater than it first appears.  Precious moments awaiting you in the near future must be seized.  The time is ripe for gigantic success, sweeter than you have ever known.

Spring – The cycle renews:
Summer, Card #12
The Nereid
A fragile air faerie with wings like a butterfly.
Romantic love will always find a way.  Two hearts will unite.
You are in love and will soon realize that this love affair may have a fairy tale ending.   A romance is about to become a grand adventure in picturesque locations that colour your days.  Charm will lead to a mysteriously sentimental attachment, if you are kept apart from the one you love.  The pair of you will eventually meet, and you will feel happy instead of sad.  Both of you will speak and hear loving words, and experience loving deeds that express sincerity and commitment.

Summer – The longest day:
Winter, Card #5
The Boggart
A meddlesome, solitary Brownie.
Caution prevents defeat.  Forego immediate treasures for distant.
Be wary of walking on thin ice.  Someone usually well disposed toward you may be argumentative.  A helpful person is becoming very attached to you, while someone of enduring benefit may fade out of your life, if unappreciated.  You know better than to let your true friends to slip away.  There are new solutions to old problems.  Your caution and attention to detail bring a blessing to all from whom you fear harm.  Everything is warming around you, and you will experience a lasting period of growing content and peacefulness.
1.
Question #1
Winter, Card #10
The Undine
An extremely agile, shapeshifting water spirit
Emotional tides are turning.
Demands and times change.   Happiness will be yours if you have the staying power to swim with the tide of destiny, to save what has been lost or forgotten.  Someone may fail a test you set, making your answer easy to see and work forward from.  Dignified, you may watch another person or others, without becoming involved for awhile.  As matters flow, you will inevitably realize that you are riding the crest of a wave to success.

Question #2
Winter, Card #2
The Faerie Queen of Winter
A faerie crowned with snowflake jewels; she endows lovers with prophetic sight.
Peaceful sleep and slumber precede morning glory.
You possess too much “feyness” to waste effort on time-wasting nonsense.  An impure human is incapable of grasping a magical moment.  Imagination or a divine element worth thinking about is dismissed as nothing.  Fairy magic wasted on one undeserving, demoralizing mortal is like casting pearls before swine.  Duties and priorities are defined by intuitive responsibility.  Your reward magically reveals itself through a spell of ongoing good fortune.

Question #3
Summer, Card #9
The Trooping Faeries
A lamplight procession of all types of faeries to a festive celebration, seen particularly on May 1 and June 21. Powers of charm and desire beckon.  Nature answers prayers.
The Trooping Fairies –Loving affectionate thoughts will have others rallying around to help you in love.  Your kind heart gains you recognition and attracts wish fulfillment.  People will conspire to get you and someone else together -  the event may be a birthday or seasonal occasion that involves travel.   The light of true love will shine brightly for you.   You will be mixing friends old and new.   Relevant communication and happy surprises are on their way.  Nothing can prevent your good fortune.

Question #4
Spring, Card #5
The Elf
A mischievous creature about 4 ft. (1.2m) tall.
Love-light and benevolence shine.  Personal happiness prevails.
A mischief-maker has been causing trouble, but your sterling qualities of will power, determination, and enduring faith in higher powers will ensure you win through.  Now is the time to seize the initiative.  Focus all of your energy on a hitherto emotional dilemma and you will be blessed by love.  Your good fortune has been a long time coming and this gift from the stars is richly deserved.  You will visit unusual and amusing places and meet stimulating people, who may spark a new interest.  A romantic invitation will arrive.

Question #5
Fall, Card #13
The Knowe
A knoll-dweller who grants second sight to humans.
Omniscience makes it presence felt.  Optimism opens doors.
Intuitively you know what will be.  Your wish will most certainly be fulfilled.  Your enthusiasm leads to the success towards which it strives.  Time and patience are your tools to influence and empower the materialization of your present and the fulfillment of your future.  You know that your achievements will be recognized.  The everyday becomes important, and will lead to a phase of contentment that endures beyond the present.  Surprisingly, you may hear from someone long forgotten.

A pox upon all who seek to cause me harm.  Muwhahahahahaha.  The day started out really rough and depressing, however as it progressed it got lighter.  I got to promote someone today, which really rocked, as they are very deserving.
Tonight when I got home, we had midnight cheeseburgers..yes, I know eating cheeseburgers at midnight is not exactly the healthiest thing to do.  But...sometimes you just have to say to hell with it, and do it.  We then did readings...well, Layne did the readings,  I did the typing, and Pumpkinhead did the laughing.  They were inspiring, and full of focus.  The perfect way to spend a New Moon.

Most people go gaga over a Full Moon.  Me?  I feel strongest at the New.  Which is why waking up in the mood that I was in this morning, was just...wrong and off.  I've been dealing with a troll problem in my life.  Said troll insists on making my life a living hell, and being a bully.  It won't continue much longer.  I'm not the only one the troll likes to push around, but I'm the most vocal of the group.  Always have been, probably always will.  But I refuse to give as much energy as I have been to this.  It's not healthy, and it's getting me caught in a rut.

Travel, love and new acquaintances are in my future over the next year, as well as a turning point for the better.  WOOHOO!!!  I think I'm going to take one of the cards' advice and try and sleep.  LOL

Until next time...

Another one of those blog posts when I should be sleeping.  But..I'm not, and I've neglected my blog long enough.  I'm really working on trying to not forget about it for months on end.  It's one of my resolutions to myself.

Got into a discussion about the monarchy while I was eating, Bear found a couple of pictures of King George, when he was a baby with Queen Victoria, so of course that lead me into the Queen Mum, and an argument over her name.   I won.  It was Elizabeth, just like her daughter. :)  My Gran was a lover of all things royal.  She was a stout supporter of the Queen, and the Queen Mum.  She was over the moon when Charles and Di got married.  And she would have been devastated when they separated, but she was already gone.  My mother was in love with the Royals too.  We had Charles and Di cookie tins, she had those mini silver collecter spoons that were released for the wedding, a few small china plates etc.  Being bi-national he he, I love saying that instead of dual citizen...I grew up with both a president and a Queen.  And while the monarchy isn't a monarchy in the same sense that it once was, I have to say, I prefer the British and Commonwealth methods of governing.

Sure we've got problems with politicians in Canada, but we've also got more say in the way the country is run, we can laugh at our politicians and not fear being gunned down for it.  Freedom of Speech for a Canadian is a lot different than it is for an American.  We're encouraged to shout from the rooftops, and let our politicians know when we're unhappy.  Unfortunately, sometimes the wrong people get put in power, and don't listen to the little people all the time, but at least we can tell them to fuck off to their faces.

My first new post in this blog came on the day that we lost Jack Layton.  His funeral is tomorrow in Toronto. I'm working, so I won't be able to attend.  Jack was one of those politicians that really seemed to listen.  He had a very charismatic manner, and was very engaged with people.  I've never heard a bad thing said about him, and he wasn't Opposition Leader Layton, he was Jack to a lot of people.  I said in that other post, that he could have been our next Prime Minister.  Had this dream come about, we would see a new Canada spring up.
I know that not all the people can be pleased all of the time, but the current government is distancing itself from the people that make the Country run.  We've always had the stigma of the "Polite" country, and we've been far too Polite for far to long with the people that continue to empty our wallets, and make bad choices.
We've become to complacent to just let the rich get richer, and the poor lose their homes.  We're one of the largest oil producing countries in the world, yet our fuel prices are astronomically higher than they are in the US, who buys the oil from us, with a weaker dollar.
Higher fuel prices = higher transport costs.  Higher transport costs = higher prices.  I guess maybe it's a supply and demand thing...the US is bigger in population, more cars, more people buying gas...stronger buying power?  I don't buy it.  Gas prices keep going up here, while oil prices are dropping.  It makes no sense.  Oil is trading for less this year, than it was at the same time last year, yet we're a good $.30/ltr higher in prices than this time last year.

But I digress.

In other news...I'm sleepy.  LOL  still short handed at work, and still working too many hours.  On the bright side today, promoted one person, and hired another, so things are looking up!

G'night universe

Quick final post for the day.

I refuse to bow to defeat, but all this coding is a nightmare!  There was a time when I could make a website do and act exactly the way I wanted it to.  I feel so out of my element with blog design. LOL  CSS is not my friend. I'm trying to make a background image automatically resize yet keep the same aspect ration no matter the screen the page is being viewed on.
I know there's a way, but at 1am...I'm not finding it.  It's a challenge I will not back down from.

On that note however, tomorrow is a very long day, and I must sleep.  G'night interweb!

Back to work

5 days went really fast. But the good news is, just over 2 months until the real vacation.
As expected there was a tonne of catching up to do and people haven't changed. In my line of work I make thousands of new "friends" every month. Out of those 1000's, 10% are friendly, courteous, nice even the other 90% treat us as gum on the bottom of a shoe.
Where has society gone that politeness is now an option for most of us. Maybe I'm more sensitive to it because of my job but it makes you stop and think.
I see people on a daily basis who walk past mothers struggling with strollers and bags and doors and rarely will I see someone stop talking on their cell phone long enough to help.
I challenge myself to be different and help when I can. I think we all should.

Just a quick post today might be more later.

Finally!

Well...after much work...most of it not done by me we're finally redirecting to our new/old web home.  RaisingAvalon.com has been our home for many many years, but in the past couple just due to life etc, nothing has been on it.  My IT dept. (thanks Eirth) managed to get it all figured out tonight.  So...the question now becomes, do I make it so that all traffic to raisingavalon.com is directed to the blog...or do I keep the webspace open for future development?  That shall be a decision for another millisecond.
I just imported my old blog posts from Emrys' Den.  Emrys' Den used to be my spot on the .com page when it was up.
I guess I'll just wait for good ole Apollo to send me some inspiration, and Hermes to send me the words.  Still waiting on those lottery numbers boys!

And a new day dawns...

In the United States context, the Treaty of Tripoli (1797) stated in Article 11:
As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion,—as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen,—and as the said States never entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

Well, that was certainly a weighty way to start a post.

When I first came out of the proverbial "broom" closet, I was young, full of piss and vinegar and invincible...you know, the usual late teen bravado.  I knew who I was, what my future was going to be like (I was going to change the world afterall)  Now 20 years later, I've grown up, have a respectable job, live in a respectable neighbourhood, and a descent small city, commuting 1 to 2 hours a day, and compeletely miserable about it.  HA!  Not what I saw as a young man, that's for sure.

Don't get me wrong, my home life doesn't make me miserable, on the contrary, it empowers me.  But...and there's always a but, it hasn't been the out in the open changing the world kind of life.  As you grow up, depending on the choices you make in life, sometimes it's better to put certain things back in the "broom" closet, like...the broom.  And as the title of this article from The Wild Hunt professes...Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not after you.

For centuries, if you weren't of a certain faith, you'd be persecuted, treated like less than an animal, and in some cases stoned, burnt, hung, drowned...sometimes all of the above if the crowd was extra bigotted.  What I have been trying to understand for most of my life is how one God can be the basis for the 3 most influential religions on the planet, yet cause the most dischord and strife.  At their very basics, all 3 worship the same Godhead, follow the same beginning chapters.  All tell the stories of Abraham (All three trace their roots to Abraham and his family), Adam and Eve, Moses, Noah etc.

Now, realistically, the Pagan culture isn't free of this kind of dischord.  The major difference is, we're not trying to take down and restructure governments.  Religion has no place in government, unless all faiths are represented equally.  Fundies need to get a clue, that they aren't the only ones on the planet.  I applaud their devotion to their faith, however I detest their force feeding their dogma to everyone.

Jumping off of soapbox now.

Yay!

Just had to share.  I love Evanescence.  There's a lot of bands out there with the same style of sound, but each lead singer has their own specific...something...that they add.  Welcome back Evanescence!!!

So, I figure if I'm going to be taking my blogging more seriously I should see if I can do it mobily.

Progress!

I was reading this article on The Wild Hunt. I'm excited as well as a little apprehensive all at the same time.  I think it's a great step forward for Students, Schools, and all Pagan-kind.  Then there's the other side of it.  How many non-Pagan students/Faculty are going to respectfully stay quiet on this?
I've been relatively lucky over the past 15 years in my workplaces.  While my beliefs may not be 100% understood, I've never had any outright clash over them with anyone I work with/for.  I've been able to take my celebrated "holidays" without too much flack.
My hope is that society is finally getting to a higher level of tolerance.  I'm not dumb enough to believe there will be global acceptance overnight, but this is a step in the right direction.

New Beginnings on a Sad Day

While this site is getting a new start, Canada has lost a great man.  Jack Layton died today.  At first I wasn't sure what I felt about this.  I think I was originally just in shock.  He was going to be the man to turn the country around.  For the first time in a long time, we had someone fighting for the little guy on Parliament Hill.  We had a solid opposition to keep the gov't in check.  Speculating what will happen to the party or the country at a time like this seems cold.  But they're hard facts that weigh on more than just my mind I'm sure.

My deepest condolensces go out to his family.  Losing a loved one is a tragedy that when faced, is the most horrid thing one can imagine.  Jack was 61, had beaten cancer once, and had led his party to the number 2 spot in Canada.  He dedicated his life to bettering Canada, and Canadian's lives.
R.I.P Jack

New Beginnings

A new look and feel, a new blog, just shiny and new everything.  And what better way to start a new blog than by rambling about...nothing really.  It's almost 4am, and I should have been asleep hours ago, but I was bitten by the design bug.  I don't think I like the background I created for this blog.  I'm very happy with the title though.  That jumped into my head, and back out pretty quick.

Over the next couple of days, I'll work on the look and feel more.  I also want to start building up my bookmarks again so I actually have fodder for the keyboard, and can write about more than just...rambling nonsense.

And gadgets...widgetty things.  Need some of those as well.  Welcome all to the new Raising Avalon.
